Our Mission
The WSJ Crossover Foundation was founded by professional basketball player and Roxbury native Wayne Selden Jr., whose journey from Boston’s inner city to the NBA was fueled by family, resilience, and the will to create what wasn’t given to him. Rooted in that lived experience, our mission is to uplift underserved youth and families — not only economically but emotionally, educationally, socially. We meet young people where they are and walk with them as they grow, helping them cross over from potential to purpose.
Through long-term mentorship, wellness sessions, life skills training, and free community programs — like basketball clinics, school supply drives, and holiday support — we provide guidance, structure, and a steady presence.
We believe in “Greatness by guidance.” Because guidance is the assist and greatness is the finish.
At the heart of it all, is a mission to create lasting change by investing in the future of our youth and being a steady presence in their lives. Not just when things go right, but when life gets hard. Our work isn’t performative — it’s personal. We’re here to light the way and cheer as our youth run toward the future they deserve. One crossover at a time.

Core Values

Empowerment Through Access
We believe every young person deserves the tools, guidance, and opportunity to reach their full potential—on and off the court—by removing barriers and expanding access to high-quality programs, mentorship, and the supportive people who can help them grow.

Community Connection
We serve as a bridge between youth, families, and neighborhoods—fostering connection through shared experiences, supportive relationships, and equitable access to resources—strengthening the social fabric of our communities while creating a lasting sense of unity, belonging, and trust.

Pursuit of Excellence
We instill a pursuit of greatness—in academics, athletics, and character—through effort, humility, and accountability. We challenge youth to aim high, stay grounded, and develop the mindset needed to lead successful lives on and off the court.

Leading By Example
We develop young leaders by modeling integrity, responsibility, and resilience—showing them what it means to lead in their homes, schools, and neighborhoods. We believe example is the most powerful teacher and strive to embody what we want to inspire.

Healthy Habits
We promote wellness in all forms—mental, emotional, and physical. Through training, education, and open dialogue, we equip youth with tools to care for their whole selves and prioritize health as a foundation for personal growth and lifelong achievement.

Heart of Service
We lead with compassion and generosity—giving back through mentorship, programs, and support. We’re committed to showing up for our community, creating opportunities, and making sure youth and families know they are seen, valued, and never alone on their journey.
